Between tradition and French leather craftsmanship
All the materials thus worked are then transported to our partner production workshops, which make the items according to the directives of our artistic director.
Timeless design
While we pride ourselves on being a brand in tune with the times, we have always been committed to creating timeless models. This is evidenced by the ACE baguette bag created in 1998 and still unbreakable today, or the fact that our range is renewed 70% year after year!
A heritage Made In France
In the early 1990s, LANCASTER was a subcontractor for major French leather goods houses. Over the years, we have created our own brand, and have remained faithful and sensitive to the tradition of French leather craftsmanship.
Shortening the production circuit
Although more than a third of our models are still produced in our workshop in the parisienne region, the brand has opened up to overseas manufacturing, particularly in Asia. This makes transport, although mostly maritime, a major environmental issue to address.
This is why we have decided to relocate a large part of our production to Europe: within 5 years, 70% of LANCASTER models will be produced there (vs. 35% today)! This resolute choice is already being implemented with the marketing, from the beginning of 2022, of items made by new Italian suppliers.
Ethics
The internationalization of our production chain also raises ethical questions: it is our responsibility to ensure that our suppliers respect the fundamental rights of people, particularly regarding child labor and working conditions (fight against corruption, illegal work, etc.). This is why we integrate an ethics charter into all our contracts with our suppliers.
Perfect imperfections...
Have you ever noticed natural irregularities on the leather of our bags or accessories?
While major luxury brands only use the parts of the leather they consider “perfect,” that is, without imperfections, and thus waste an average of 50% of the hides, we consider leather to be a noble material because it is natural, and our job is to restore all its essence!
In comparison, we use up to 90% of the hides, thereby reducing waste.
A 4-axis approach
Lancaster is committed to responsible fashion based on four key axes: materials from ethical sourcing, sustainable production, conscious fashion and distribution with sustainable partners. Consult the full project report
